I Get to Do What I Love Every Day - The Story Behind Sweet P & Fi and owner Molly Schellhorn

I love shopping!!  Shopping for trendy and high quality yet affordable fashion has always been a passion of mine.  When I was working as a paralegal, I was always on the prowl for professional clothing that still expressed my personality (and fit my budget).  When I had my two girls and we made the decision that I would stay home with them, I turned my sights to more casual clothes for me and, of course, adorable outfits for my daughters.

As my girls got older, I realized that I needed something for myself.  I didn’t want to go back to the daily 9-5 environment and miss out on all the things I loved: leisurely (and sometimes crazy) meals with my kids, being home for my husband when he got off work, being able to take my girls to the park or to a movie with friends in the middle of the day.  That’s when I thought, why can’t I turn one of my biggest passions into my business?  As soon as the idea came to me, I knew it was the right one.  My husband Dan was 100% on board with the plan, and we started brainstorming a name for our new boutique.  It didn’t take long to decide that it should be named after the two things we loved most in the world: our daughters (P)iper and (Fi)ona.

After choosing the name, the real work started happening!  If any of you have ever been involved with starting a business, you know what I’m talking about!  Filing legal documents, setting up the business structure, etc. etc…I can’t say that part was a lot of FUN, but I knew it was necessary.  And this got me to the NEXT fun task: choosing which items I would have in my store!  I loved researching vendors and finding the exact right ones to fit in with my vision: an affordable boutique with unique, high-quality items for work and play.  I loved doing this in the beginning and I continue to love it to this day.  I spend hours picking out the perfect pieces for my shop and I love every minute of it!  I’m also always excited to get feedback from customers and hearing what YOU gals would like to see in the shop!!

When I order clothes, I typically order in packs of 6-8.  I want the pieces in the shop to be unique enough that there won’t be a lot of you gals showing up to places in the same outfits!  I also enjoy continually bringing in new items, so small orders suit our shop perfectly.

Speaking of orders, we have the UPS man visiting almost daily with new goodies!!  I still get giddy when I receive new orders and opening them up is like Christmas on a daily basis!

I inventory all items, try to resist the temptation to keep one of everything for myself (sometimes I fail miserably!), then put the clothes in my ‘store’ in my home.  Here is just some of the inventory :)

We often make this a family project and Piper and Fiona absolutely love ‘helping’ mommy carry packages up the stairs or hanging them on the racks!

I decided to purchase a nice camera and try my hand at photography – I photograph and edit all of the photos for the site to save on costs.  I still have a lot to learn!

Checking my orders and social media is another part of my daily routine that I absolutely love and always get a thrill from.  There’s just nothing like seeing a new order pop up or seeing a comment being made on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.  I also prepare and package all orders, and my husband Dan often drops off packages to the post office on his way to work.

When I started Sweet P & Fi, my goal was (and still is) to find affordable, fashionable and classy items comparable to more expensive boutique items.  I believe every woman feels better when she feels good in her clothes, and even better when she knows that she didn’t break the bank to get that feeling!  Thank you all for reading the story behind Sweet P & Fi and I look forward to continue bringing affordable, fun and trendy clothing to your closet!
